Daniel N. Denhart
Technical Direction and Scene Design

Mr. Denhart has served as Technical Director for the Ohio University School of Theater since completing his MFA in Production Design and Technology in Scene Design from Ohio University in 1986. Dan has recently been named Associate Professor of Technical Direction and Scene Design, teaching within the PD&T Program here at the O U School of Theater.

During Dan's tenure as Technical Director, he has overseen the Technical Direction of more than 80 productions for the School of Theater, as well as productions of The Turn of The Screw and South Pacific for the Ohio State University School of Music, Opera Division, and numerous productions spanning years of involvement with The Ohio Valley Summer Theater. Some of Mr. Denhart’s most recent Technical Direction credits include Streetcar Named Desire (2000), Tammicanfly (2000), and Les Trois Dumas (2001). In addition to his technical direction work, Dan has designed scenery for numerous OVST productions including Sweeny Todd, The Man of La Mancha, Fiddler on the Roof, Big River (featuring computer generated video imaging), The Wizard of Oz, and this past summer, Damn Yankees; also this past summer Dan served as Lighting Designer for the Parkersburg Actors Guild production of Annie. Dan has also served as Scenic Artist for Bowling Green State University production of Henry IV and OVST production of West Side Story. Mr. Denhart’s 1991 scene design for the Ohio University School of Theater production of Lanford Wilson’s Balm in Gilead was a USITT Peggy Ezekial Award Finalist.

Additionally, for the past several years, Mr. Denhart has served on the National Conference Committee for the United States Institute of Theater Technology (USITT) previously in the capacity of Special Exhibit Coordinator, which involves coordinating the design exhibits of some of the worlds most noteworthy scenery, costume and lighting designers in a gallery type set-up for members of the institute to view while at the conference. Dan is currently on the USITT Board of Directors as Vice President of Special Operations.
