Dr. Jordan Schildcrout
Head - Theater History and Criticism

Dr. Jordan Schildcrout earned his B.A. in Literature from Yale University and his Ph.D. in Theatre from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where his dissertation won the Vera Roberts Fellowship and the Monette-Horowitz Award.  He heads the MA Program in Theater History and Criticsm, and teaches classes in Scholarship, Dramaturgy, Pedagogy, Political Theater, LGBT Theater, and Popular Broadway Plays. Recent publications include "The Performance of Nonconformity on The Muppet Show--or, How Kermit Made Me Queer" (Journal of Popular Culture) and "No Tragedy: Queer Evil in the Metaphysical Comedies of Nicky Silver (in We Will Be Citizens: New Essays on Gay and Lesbian Theatre , McFarland).  Other publications include performance and book reviews in Theatre Journal, the entry on Gay and Lesbian Drama forThe Columbia Encyclopedia of Modern Drama, and an article on Yiddish Theater for Zeek Magazine.

Dr. Schildcrout regularly presents new scholarship at the Mid-America Theatre Conference (MATC) and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), where he formerly served as Conference Planner for the LGBT Theatre Focus Group.  As a dramaturg and literary manager, he has worked for Manhattan Theatre Club, Adobe Theatre Company, Denver Center Theatre Company, Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Fox/Searchlight Pictures, TOSOS II, Rude Mechanicals Theatre Company, and the Drama Desk-nominated Wash & Fold Theatre Project, which he co-founded.  At OU, he served as dramaturg on School of Theater productions of The Time of Your Life and Betty's Summer Vacation.
