Lysistrata, By Aristophanes
Directed By: Rich Perloff
Performances: October 11-14 & 18-21, 2000

Originally produced in 411 BC when the enemy was literally at the city gates of Athens , Lysistrata proposes a comically unique plan for peace -- the women will refuse themselves to their husbands until the men give up on war. The process of sex-starvation leads to hysterical situations, ribald negotiations, and, finally, peace and marital celebration.
