Jason Roland Smith, a full-time member of the School of Music faculty at Ohio University, has presented performances at the Great Plains Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, the Midwest ITEA Regional Conference at Ball State University, the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference held in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, the World Saxophone Congress in Montreal Canada, and the National Flute Symposium in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, Smith has recently performed at Fairmont State University, University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, University of Kansas, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Other performance credits include a live studio broadcast on Classical Public Radio WGUC (Paul Hindemith’s Sonate and Anthony Plog’s Three Miniatures), recitals as a member of OhioBrass at the Music Teachers National Convention and the Ohio Music Educators Association Conference. Jason served as an adjudicator for the 2004 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference Student Level Solo Tuba Competition, 2003 Leonard Falcone Competition, and the 2002 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference Artist Level Solo Tuba Competition. While pursuing graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Jason recorded as a member of the Cincinnati Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cincinnati Wind Symphony, and also performed as a member of the Opera Theatre Orchestra of Lucca, Italy. Prior to completing his masters and doctorate with Tim Northcut at CCM, Jason completed a BM in Theory and Composition at Appalachian State University studying tuba with Robert Clark and composition with Scott Meister. Jason has served on the faculties at Wright State University, College of Mount St. Joseph, Northern Kentucky University, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Cannon Music Camp. Since 2002, he has held the position of editor for the International Tuba Euphonium Association Journal. |
