Allyn Reilly has taught music theory and saxophone at Ohio University since 1975.  He is chair of the Academic Studies Division of the School of Music and teaches courses in music theory, aural skills, counterpoint, and analysis. Dr. Reilly was the recipient of the 2004 School of Music Distinguished Teaching Award and is listed in the 7th edition of Who's Who in American Education.

As a saxophonist, he has performed extensively throughout the United States and in Japan, and premiered pieces by James Chaudoir and Mark Phillips, among others. He was editor of The Saxophone Symposium , the journal of the North American Saxophone Alliance, between 1994 and 1998. 

He holds degrees in saxophone performance from Millikin University and Northwestern University; he also holds a Ph.D. in music theory from Northwestern University.  As a theorist, his research interests include theory pedagogy, 18 th -century German theory, the relationship of rhetoric and form in music of the Classic period, and 20 th -century music for wind instruments.  He has published articles in In Theory Only and The Instrumentalist and presented papers at numerous conferences.
