Kamile Geist holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University and a Master of Arts in Music Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. She also is a nationally board-certified music therapist and holds an all-level music education certification. Currently Associate Professor of music therapy, Professor Geist teaches undergraduate and graduate music therapy courses.
Before coming to Ohio University, Professor Geist worked as a middle school band director and a music therapy professional. As a practicing music therapist, she owned her own music therapy business, North Dallas Music Therapy Services and worked primarily in local school districts in the Dallas area. She also taught undergraduate and graduate music therapy courses at Southern Methodist University.
At Ohio University, Professor Geist serves on various university, community, and national committees, including the Ohio University Graduate Council and the American Music Therapy Association’s Academic Program Approval Committee. She was also a founding member of the Southeastern Ohio Autism Society of America and currently serves as Vice President.
She is known for her research endeavors in the areas of music therapy and speech-language therapy co-treatment strategies and music elements assisting young children with logical thinking skills related to learning math. She has been featured twice in Ohio University's research journal Perspectives. She is published in the Journal of Instructional Psychology, the Journal of Music Therapy, the College Student Journal, and the prestigious early childhood education journal, Young Children. Professor Geist has been invited to present her work nationally and internationally, speaking to early childhood educators and music teachers in Spain, Mexico, and Colombia, South America.
