Michael Kellogg, Associate Professor of Music Therapy, received B.M. and M. M. degree
in music therapy from Loyola Univeristy (New Orleans) and completed clinical training at the New Jersey Neuropsychiatric Institute in Princeton, N.J.  He is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) and a professional member of the American Music Therapy Association.

Kellogg directed music therapy treatment programs for the developmentally disabled for seven years and also served as a clinical training supervisor in Pennsylvania and Louisiana. Professionally, he exercised leadership as President of the South Central Region of NAMT and was the first President of the Ohio Association for Music Therapy,  a delegate to the  NAMT Assembly of Delegates, and  chair of the NAMT Employee Relations Committee.  He also served as vice-President of Rapides (La.) Association for Retarded Citizens, Chair of the Ohio Music Education Association – Music for Special Children Committee, and Vice-President of the Board of Trustees of Very Special Arts Ohio. 

In Louisiana, he initiated the Special Education Music Festival and in Ohio, he created and directed the Southeastern Ohio Very Special Arts Festival for over 12 years.  Under his direction, six educational videotapes on music therapy were produced and distributed nationally.   As Music Therapy Department Chair, he developed an extensive program of music therapy practicum affiliations with area agencies for OU music therapy students and received curricular approval for the first Masters Degree in Music Therapy in Ohio.  At Ohio University, he was actively involved in faculty self-governance for over 20 years, including serving as Vice-Chair of the Faculty Senate, and Chairs of the University Curriculum Committee, University Admissions and Recruitment Committee, and the Music Therapy Department. As the OAMT historian, he has made research presentations on the history of the Ohio University Music Therapy program and the state music therapy organization.

Professor Kellogg is among the School of Music’s active retired faculty, teaching part-time in the Music Therapy area.
