Milton Butler is Associate Professor of Music Education with a concentration in secondary general music and emphasizes multicultural musics and music across the curriculum. He has taught kindergarten through twelfth grade in the public schools of Houston, TX and Tucson, AZ. Dr. Butler received the Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of Arizona and has served as Chair of the Multicultural Awareness Committee for the Arizona Music Education Association. He received the Bachelor of Music Education and the Master of Music Education degrees from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.

Professor Butler is an active in-service clinician for teachers (both classroom and music educators) with workshops in multicultural musics and music at the middle level. He frequently presents motivational workshops for children of all ages. Dr. Butler has been a member of the Futures Advisory Committee for the Ohio Music Education Association and the Ohio Department of Education's Pre-service Program Review Committee. He is a current member of the Steering Committee for the State of Ohio Arts Assessment Project, serves as the Ohio Music Education Association representative on the Ohio Arts Education Advisory Committee, and is a member of the OMEA Multicultural Awareness Committee. He recently served on the Planning Committee for the OMEA 1999 Professional In-service Conference.

Dr. Butler has intensively studied the music of Ghana, West Africa. He lived and studied with the late Godwin Kwasi Agbeli, the renowned master drummer and teacher in the village of Kopeyia in the Danu -Volta Region of Ghana. Additionally, Milton has studied with Abubakari Lunna and Habib Iddrisu, both master drummers, from the north of Ghana near the city of Tamala.
