Ernest Bastin is Professor Emeritus of Trumpet and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from West Virginia University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois. Mr. Bastin remains active as a classical and jazz performer. He is Principal Trumpet in the Ohio Valley Symphony and Co-Principal Trumpet in the Michiana Brass Quintet. He has performed with the Les and Larry Elgart Orchestra, Dick Schory's Percussion Pops, Holiday on Ice, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Bob Hope and Nancy Wilson. He has also performed with the University of Illinois Contemporary Chamber Players and in the Festival of Trumpets Concerts at the International Trumpet Guild Conference. His recordings include "Computer Music", "Gestures for 11," and "Trumpet Music of the Baroque." Mr. Bastin is sponsored by THE SELMER COMPANY, L.P., Elkhart, Indiana. Currently he is teaching part-time in the School of Music, teaching jazz improvisation and brass methods. Bastin was the recipient of the 1998 School of Music Distinguished Teaching Award.
