The Ohio University Wind Ensemble is one of three concert bands in the School of Music. The ensemble’s membership is selected from among the finest wind and percussion performers in the university.

As the premiere concert band in the School of Music, the Wind Ensemble performs approximately six campus concerts each year, and has performed for conferences of the College Band Director’s National Association (February 2004), Ohio Music Education Association (1996, 1999, 2002, 2005), the Society of Composers, Inc.,  and the 1999 Women in Music Conference with guest composers Joan Tower and Nancy Galbraith.  

Members of the wind ensemble have enjoyed opportunities to collaborate with a variety of distinguished artists including conductors Eugene Corporon, Jack Delaney, Thomas Fraschillo, Gary Hill, Donald Schleicher, Thomas Lee, and composers Donald Erb, Nancy Galbraith, Jack Gallagher, Jere Hutcheson, James Mobberley, Roberto Sierra, and Eric Whitacre. 

The Wind Ensemble has also performed with an array of outstanding soloists including:  Allen Vizzutti, trumpet, Eric Stomberg, bassoon, Tony Baker, trombone, Marjorie Bennett Stephens, soprano, Patricia Pease, mezzo soprano, Alison Brown Sincoff, flute, Matthew James, saxophone, Allyn Reilly, saxophone, Rebecca Rischin, clarinet, John Schlabach, trumpet, C. Scott Smith, horn, Chris  Hayes, trombone, Marjorie Bagley, violin, Michael Carrera, cello, Jason Smith, tuba, and Richard Syracuse, piano. 

In an effort to support the creation of new works for wind band, the wind ensemble frequently sponsors commissioning projects.  Composers whose works have been jointly commissioned by the Ohio University Wind Ensemble include Robert Rodriguez, Timothy Broege, Roberto Sierra, Michael Schelle, Walter Mays, Daron Hagen, and Lowell Lieberman.
