HBCO Festival 2012: Orchestra Details and Registration

The School of Music is excited to announce that this year, the annual Honor Orchestra Festival will be held in conjunction with the Honor Band and Choir Festivals, to be held on the Athens campus January 6-8, 2012. .This year's repertoire focuses on music for percussion and strings, including Enescu's Prelude at the Unison, Mozart's Serenata notturna, and Rodion Shchedrin's Carmen Ballet, based on music by Bizet.
The orchestra is open to string students currently in grades 9-12 and selection is by audition. School of Music faculty will hold auditions throughout the state, or applicants may submit a recorded audition. To reserve an audition time, students should apply online, by mail, or via fax (instructions below). Applications must be received by TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2011, for live auditions; or NOVEMBER 8, 2011, for recorded audition submissions.

Registration and Audition Information:
(ATTENTION MUSIC DIRECTORS: As a convenience, you may register your students directly online, or with our HBCO Directors Registration Form. Students who you register are not required to fill out the separate HBCO Student Registration Form, below.)
LIVE AUDITIONS: Complete the online reigstration; or download and mail or fax (740-593-1429) the HBCO Student Registration Form by NOVEMBER 8, 2011. The address is found below and on the HBCO Registration Form. Live auditions will be held between November 14-22, 2011. Indicate your preferred location on the registration form. Auditionees should be prepared to perform approximately three minutes of contrasting repertoire. Solo repertoire is preferred. An accompanist is not required. Sight reading may be asked.
Applicants will be notified of the exact audition location and time after receipt of their registration forms.
RECORDED AUDITIONS: Live auditions are preferred, but if you are unable to make a live audition date, send a recording (CD/ DVD) of five minutes from any solo or ensemble piece(s) that demonstrates technical and musical abiliites. Auditionees may prepare selections from two different works.Download and send in the HBCO Student Registration Form and audition fee ($5) with your recording. Deadline for receipt of recordings is NOVEMBER 8, 2011.
A final option is a youtube submission of your audition recording. Please send the link to huangs@ohio.edu, and include in the subject heading: 2012 OU Honor Orchestra Audition Link. An audition fee of $5 should be sent to the address below, or you may pay online.

Audition and Participation Fees:
An audition fee of $5 is required of all applicants and is due at the time of audition or must be sent with the audition recording.
Participant fee for the entire weekend is only $120. This includes the educational tuition, lodging, meals described under lodging/meals, social events, transportation to and from the hotel beginning on Friday evening, and a custom Honor Band, Choir, & Orchestra T-Shirt. Participants must confirm participation with payment in full by Friday, DECEMBER 16, 2011. Payment can be made online.
