Dean's Greeting

Dear Friends of the Arts,

The College of Fine Arts is uniquely positioned in the university to offer access to art experiences that are at the intellectual core of our university. We take seriously the responsibility to provide the students and the community a diversity of provacative and quality experiences.

The second part of our dual mission is to educate artists and scholars in self-expression and scholarly inquiry through hands on training and research practice. We recognize that in this competitive world we need to be student focused and precise in our offerings. We are always adapting and refining to stay current and relevant.

Our students learn skills that go well beyond their immediate discipline; hard work, dedication, higher order thinking and a pursuit of excellence. Our graduates will serve our culture well when they carry these virtues into their careers.

The College of Fine Arts is home to world-class faculty who are practicing artists, educators, scholars and practitioners in their individual fields. Their accomplishments form the framework for their authority to teach a current and involved curriculum.

Our residential learning community establishes an integrated, interdisciplinary experience. We are developing first year experiences in the arts for all students on campus.

A diverse education is essential and we have developed a number of international education programs and Athens based programs of study that focus internationally. The college is a dynamic and rich environment for undergraduate students. We also have nationally recognized and excellent graduate programs. The graduate students add a richness and dynamic element to all of our programs.

We are in a rich and vibrant time for the university and for the College. We honor our past, but are excited by the possibilities for the future. We welcome your participation in the future of our college.

Chuck McWeeny
