Mariana Quiroga was born in Argentina . When she was 3 years old, her family was forced into exile due to political turmoil, and moved to Venezuela where she grew up and became a citizen. During her undergraduate studies, Mariana made several short documentary and fiction films, which went on to win awards at VIART, a recognized Venezuelan film festival. After graduating Summa cum Laude from the Central University of Venezuela in 2000, Mariana started working for HBO Latin-America, where she developed skills as a TV producer, writer and director. In 2003, Mariana was awarded a Fulbright grant to study at Ohio University , where she is working toward a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Film.

About why I came to OU:

“The OU School of Film offers you a solid curriculum through which one can develop skills in any area of filmmaking –digital editing, producing, scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, sound and media arts management. Plus, the school offers several courses in film theory and history, in which we develop skills to analyze and criticize films, helping us to be better filmmakers. Without a doubt, the OU School of Film is a wonderful environment to grow as a filmmaker and as a person. In addition, Athens is a vibrant community, with a lot of things to do.”

About Mall Walkers:

Mall Walkers, a documentary by OUSOF MFA student Mariana Quiroga, has been accepted into the 2005 Athens International Film and Video Festival. It will be shown April 30th at 1 pm. at the Athena Cinema . The film was directed, edited and shot by Mariana Quiroga. Also, it features crew work by Matthew Kraus, Kate Oestreich and Angie Vargos, all from the School of Film .
