If you are craving an opportunity to study abroad but wondering how to fit it into your busy school year, the Global Theater Institute during Winter Intersession might be the ideal program for you. You will have an incomparable opportunity to experience incredible performances ranging from the West End to the fringe including Ralph Feines playing Oedipus at the National Theater; you will also be able to take in the beauty of London during the holiday season.
Experience some of the world's most important theater including productions at the National Theatre, The Barbican, as well as the West End (London’s equivalent to Broadway), as well as fringe and experimental venues. You will soon discover why London is the center of the international theatre world. Each year we have seen work by some of the world’s leading actors and directors including James Broadbent, Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, and Bill Irwin, as productions by Katie Mitchell, Theatre de Complicite, Cheek by Jowl, Shunt. We will also attend art, dance and music events and much more including a bus tour of London on the first day of the program, a ride on the London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel that provides an unparalleled view of this wonderful city.
Your class meets at theaters in the evenings (with some matinees) with discussions after. Because your days are largely free to pursue your own interests, you may wish to do your Holiday shopping in London where you can find unusual gifts for friends and family back home.
Courses offered:
THEATER COURSE(S) (4 credit hours)
THAR 170 (tier II H) The Theater Experience
THAR 360J (1 J Comp) Writing in the Arts
THAR 473/573 Theater Seminar: Contemporary London Stage
Theater majors may be able to catch up on foundation courses (ThAr 171, 172) and/or enroll in Independent Study in Theater, pending individual arrangement. Students from other majors may work out independent studies within their own major with signed agreement of a faculty member. In some cases, a student may enroll in two courses. Tuition is billed per credit and separate assignments will be required for each course.
Completion of Course assignments:
You have until the end of Winter Quarter to complete all the assignments. Due to the limited amount of time we are in London, I recommend that you take great notes in discussion sessions while in London, and then complete your papers by the end of the Winter Quarter deadline. This will give you more free time to explore London. However, you can complete these assignments during our trip. All papers will be submitted via email.
Program Fee Includes:

You will not be officially accepted into the program until: 1. You have completed the application form available on-line at the Education Abroad website; 2. You have received an email notice from Mr. Fisher that you have been nominated and you have confirmed your acceptance; 3) You have paid your $500 deposit (see below). You will be billed the remaining balance for the London program along with your winter quarter fees in early December.
There are some limited scholarships available for this program.

You should order your passport ASAP. The estimated time to receive a passport is currently 10 weeks. This can be expedited for additional fees.
You can go online and download a copy of the DS 11passport form here (link: http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html). If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you must apply in person, but you can download the appropriate paperwork.
