Fine Arts Study Program in London, Spring 2010
Come join us...Study in London - be changed for life!
ALL MAJORS ARE WELCOME
Whatever your goals are, in London you will find ways to enrich your global awareness. Over 300 languages are spoken in London, a city that has some 50 different non-indigenous communities.
In London you can truly have the world as your classroom!
All undergraduate and graduate students are invited to participate in the College of Fine Arts Study Centre in London, England. Students will enjoy once in a lifetime opportunities to experience world-class theater, art, and music. Past London participants have seen plays starring Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Zoë Wanamaker, Kevin Spacey, Maggie Smith, Simon Russell Beale, Ned Beatty and others. Special exhibitions we have attended have included the Impressionist Sketch, Magritte, Dali, Rembrandt, Star Wars, and Art Nouveau. The justly famous Tate Modern Museum on the south shore of the Thames River stands close by to the brilliant reconstruction of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. The Barbican Centre, with its rich offerings of traditional and cutting-edge concerts, drama, and art is a regular destination for our participants. ALL of these experiences are interwoven into the curriculum of courses that satisfy general education requirements!
You will live in flats (apartments) in central London with other program participants, allowing you to economize on food costs and laundry facilities (which are free!). London students enjoy the flexibility of weekend travel too. Ryan Air and other low-cost airlines have made many European destinations very affordable for students. Our participants typically include weekend trips to such cities as Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseille, Munich, Milan, Rome, and even Istanbul.

Courses and credits
Our academic headquarters will be Florida State University's London Study Centre, a beautiful historic building located just one block from the British Museum on Great Russell Street. This wonderful facility is shared with an average of 12-16 other American universities, so OU students will have the opportunity to meet students from throughout the U.S.
Unlike courses on the Athens campus, the majority of the classes in London are taught directly on sites throughout the city. Thinking and studying some of the world´s greatest visual and performing arts directly or "in the flesh" is an exciting and unforgettable experience. For example, students find that they learn art history much faster and gain new insights more easily by studying original works of art rather than looking at slides in the classroom as you would on the Athens campus. Some classes will be held in classrooms we are renting from the FSU London Study Centre. This will allow us to hold rehearsals, have discussion groups, and invite special guest lecturers or performers. Students will also have 24-hour computer access in the Centre.
Graduate students are welcome to participate. Students are able to conduct research related to their master's thesis or dissertation in London, gaining access to some of the finest libraries and archives in the world.

Passport and Photos: $115
Roundtrip Airfare: $800

Incidentals: London is a very expensive city, primarily because of the currency conversion from dollars to pounds sterling, and much depends on the spending habits of each individual student. However, you will quickly learn the cheapest places to eat out, purchase discount clothing, etc. Plan to spend approximately twice the amount you would spend for a quarter in Athens.
