Your 19th century art history class meets each morning, and is always taught on site at some of the world's finest museums and galleries. Students find that they learn much faster and retain their knowledge much longer when studying art first hand rather than from slides and books. Experience some of the world's most famous artwork, including French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art such as Edouard Manet's A Bar at the Folies-Bergere and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. You will discover some of the unique joys of British art, such as the Turner Prize, a famous urban roof top garden in Kensington, and Leighton House, the former residence of a wealthy Victorian painter. We will visit the private gallery of a well known art dealer (who regularly appears on CNN and Antiques Road Show); he will talk about the unique nature of his profession. We will also attend some special temporary exhibitions; in the past these have included Armani Designs, Aztec Art, Art Deco, Ansel Adams, and much, much more.
|
Other adventures include a half day guided bus tour of London the day after our arrival, a ride on the London Eye (the millennium ferris wheel which provides the finest available view of this wonderful city), a proper afternoon British cream tea at Fortnum and Mason’s famous restaurant, and a final dinner together at Kettner's restaurant, without doubt London’s most elegant pizzeria. We will attend three world-class West End plays, including a musical such as Mary Poppins or Lord of the Rings. We generally attend one play starring a famous British or American actor. Because the art history classes are usually taught in the mornings and the plays and other group activities take place at night, your afternoons are free to pursue your own interests. You may wish to do your Christmas shopping there, where you will unquestionably discover many unusual gifts for friends and family back home.
