Now more than ever a film produced half a world away can have an immediate impact upon what we see on screen in our local theaters. Infernal Affairs is just such a film. While this film lent its story to Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, it has lent its style to innumerable projects since being released five years ago.
In this tense, psychological drama a cop and a mobster both attempt to sniff out a mole within their respective organizations. The two forces dance around one another, as the stakes are raised higher and higher.
A runaway hit in Hong Kong, this 2002 crime thriller reinvigorated the genre with its airtight script, taut editing, and sleek cinematography. J.R. Jones, Chicago Reader
