Following the end of the civil war in Chad, survivors look to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to serve justice to those involved in the genocide. When the commission chooses not to condemn those responsible, Atim, whose father was killed in the conflict before he was born, is ordered by his blind grandfather to avenge his father’s death. Atim seeks out his father’s torturer Nassara and is surprised to find a charitable banker and soon-to-be father who seeks redemption through religion. Instead of killing Nassara in cold blood, Atim allows Nassara to hire him as his assistant, which creates a strange and complex relationship.
" Mr. Haroun […] tells this story of a would-be boy-killer and his prey with restraint, a touch of humor and an elegant eye.”
