Cinema Paradiso
Sunday November 11 8:00pm and Wednesday November 14 8:00pm
An enchanting love letter to the movies, “Cinema Paradiso” is the story of Salvatore, a film director who returns to his Sicilian hometown to mourn the death of his old friend and mentor, the projectionist Alfredo. Told entirely in flashback, Paradiso recounts Salvatore’s youth, his introduction to the magic of cinema in the projection booth of the local theater, and his yearning for his first love, Elena. With an authentic, affectionate hand, director Giuseppe Tornatore leads us through the history of escapism that is the paradise of cinema.
This recently released director’s cut (also known as “Cinema Paradiso: The New Version”) restores nearly 50 minutes of footage, establishing this film as one of the true classics of world cinema.
