Mission Statement
The painting program focuses instruction on understanding the issues surrounding contemporary image making, fused with a thorough knowledge of methods and materials. Students are offered courses that explore traditional and contemporary ways of investigating pictorial structure, content, and form. In an atmosphere that is both supportive and challenging, students are asked to question their intentions, investigate and expand their ideas of painting, and to develop a coherent body of work that is the beginning of a dialog with the art world today. In the last several years our undergraduates have been accepted into some of the most prestigious graduate programs in the country such as Cal Arts, University of California/Sant a Barbara, Pratt Institute, Hunter College, Ohio State University, the University of Illinois, the University of Louisville, Yale University, U.C.L.A., and Tyler School of Art.
