‘Learning How to Learn’, is the underlying methodology that gives Ohio University’s graduate study in design its unique strength and a compelling interest for those seeking a place to retreat for graduate research in design. These goals are accomplished by focusing our direction toward: research that addresses design within a multi-cultural world, addresses social awareness and contextual messaging as content and insists on publishing this research in established trade journals. Throughout our history of graphic design education we have been identified as masters of typography, in traditional and contemporary practices. Our candidate’s specialized research in design thinking regarding practice, research and theory will further define the merit of the graduate studies in design at Ohio University.
We rebuild fundamental skills of perception, interpretation, and inventiveness, as well as understanding the nature and meaning of visual form in context. Our graduating designers aim to secure positions within top design firms and educational institutions nationally and internationally. They design within a broad spectrum of applications: solving complex problems, planning, and executing solutions. Our graduates’ ultimate strength is visually translating ideas into form. Aesthetically ordering type and image in order to interest and inform therefore, sending an intended message to a targeted audience.
