Robert E. Peppers, born in 1949 in McMinnville, Tennessee, is a BFA and MFA graduate of the Ohio University School of Art. For a number of years he was the Assistant Director, Black Cultural Center, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. Mr Peppers is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Art, Ohio University. Also he has taught drawing at Penland School of Crafts and painting and collage in the Ohio University Art in Great Britain Program based at King's College, London, England.

His exhibition history includes showings at S.A.W. Contemporary Artist Centre, Ottawa, Ont ario, Canada, King's college, London, England, The High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia, and ten U.S. Embassies. He received the Best of Show Awards in the 2001's Beyond and Behind the Mask Exhibition, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and 1997's 18th Annual Southwest Black Art Exhibition, African American Museum, Dallas, Texas, the 1994 Award of Excellence in Exhibition 280: Works on Walls, Huntin gton Museum of Art, Huntington, West Virginia, and the 1996 Juror's Award, Art and Social Justice Exhibition, Colfax Cultural Center, South Bend, Indiana. His installation, A Quest for Sanctuary, was on display at African American Museum, Dallas, Texas, in the summer of 1999. The 2002 Ohio Perspectives: Contemporary African American Artists exhibition at the Akron Art Museum will feature six paintings by Mr. Peppers.
