Jennie Klein specialized in contemporary art, theory, performance studies, and new genre art. She has published in New Art Examiner, Afterimage, Art Papers, Art History, N.Paradoxa, Artweek, Sculpture, and Performing Art Journal (PAJ), for whom she is a contributing editor. She is the editor of Letters from Linda M. Montano, the most recent book of writings by Linda Montano, published by Routledge, 2005. She is also the co-curator and catalogue essayist for the Barbara T. Smith retrospective at the Pomona College Museum of Art. She was the catalogue essayist for the exhibition Mother hood, curated by Meryl Chernick for the Rochester Contemporary Art Center in New York. Current research interests include feminist performance and video in the seventies, inSITE and the politics of international exhibitions on the U.S./Mexico border and the representation and politics of motherhood in video, performance, and photography.

Klein is a member of the College Art Association and has presented there several times. Along with Joanna Roche, she co-presented a paper entitled "Impossible Cohesions: Art on the US/Mexico Border." In 2005, she was the respondent for Jenni Sorkin's and Joanna Roche's panel on contemporary performance art. Prior to that she presented at CAA in 1996 and co-chaired a panel with Leo Mazow in 1997. She has also given a number of guest lectures, most recently at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Klein received her B.A. in art history from Rutgers University, her M.A. in art history from Northwestern University, and her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Southern California. Her dissertation was on feminist video and performance art in southern California. Prior to coming to Ohio University, she was an assistant professor at Berea College, KY and an adjunct professor at a number of institutions in California.
