Ohio University Ceramics

Clay is one of mankind’s earliest art making materials, and the field of Ceramic Art today embraces both it’s roots in a global cultural history, and breaks new ground in the contemporary art world as a whole.  The Ceramic area at Ohio University offers an inclusive environment where traditional and non-traditional forms of Ceramic making are equally fostered, and emphasis is put on a conceptual awareness and rigor within the making process.

(The Ceramics program emphasizes the realization of individual goals. We encourage the exploration of ideas and materials to foster an atmosphere of diversity. We are committed to developing individuals who challenge contemporary standards while producing work of exceptional craftsmanship. It is our intent to prepare artists for competition in the complex, professional ceramic art world.)

The Ceramic Program at Ohio University has been consistently voted be US News and World Reports as one of the best in the country. It is currently ranked 5th in the Nation. OU Ceramics Grads count among some of the most talented and successful Ceramic artists in the land today, teaching, setting up workshops, and exhibiting worldwide.
